Riojavenatrix lacustris

Riojavenatrix lacustris is a newly described spinosaurid, published on February 19, 2024. Initially thought to belong to Baryonyx, the fossils revealed a unique combination of features that led to the naming of a new genus. Its name means "lake huntress from La Rioja", referring to both its locality in Spain and its likely paleoenvironment. It is also one of the youngest known baryonychine spinosaurids in the fossil record.
