After a long wait, the new crocodyliform discovered in the Chorrillo Formation, about 30 km southeast of the city of El Calafate, has finally been published. Kostensuchus atrox is a new taxon that joins the family of Peirosaurids, a group of notosuchian crocodyliforms. It is a distant relative of the “Boar Crocodile” (Kaprosuchus). The material corresponds mainly to the animal’s anterior region, with a very well-preserved and articulated skull, along with cervical and dorsal vertebrae, its pectoral and pelvic girdles, and both humeri. A newly described species from the Cretaceous period, part of the Uruguaysuchidae family, named after the site "El Manzano" in La Buitrera, Argentina. Unlike modern crocodiles, this group had relatively long limbs, suggesting they moved in a very different way—likely capable of running or galloping. This artwork was created to celebrate its discovery.

Riojavenatrix lacustris is a newly described spinosaurid, published on February 19, 2024. Initially thought to belong to Baryonyx, the fossils revealed a unique combination of features that led to the naming of a new genus. Its name means “lake hunter from La Rioja”, referring to both its locality in Argentina and its likely paleoenvironment. It is also one of the youngest known baryonychine spinosaurids in the fossil record.

This animation, offers a glimpse into a hypothetical behavior of Oviraptor—often depicted as a nest raider due to its name (Latin: egg thief). However, fossils tell a different story: the first specimen was found atop a nest, likely protecting it, not stealing from it. Modern research shows Oviraptor was likely a caring parent. A great example of how scientific interpretations evolve over time.

Maip is the largest genus of megaraptorid known to date. We can imagine that we are dealing with one of the largest predators in its ecosystem. On this occasion, an adult male fails in his attempt to hunt an isasicursor, which with its quick reflexes manages to evade the predator. As today, success is not guaranteed for predators who take advantage of every opportunity to get food.

The African elephant is the largest terrestrial vertebrate that currently exists, and although other mammals have grown larger than others, the sauropods are much larger than any terrestrial animal in the history of life. In the hemisphere, titanosaurs predominated, and we found very famous taxones like Argentinosaurus huinculensis or Patagotitan majorum. And although the record of gigantic animals is fragmentary and rare, a large portion of animal species has been preserved, Futalognkosaurus poses all over its cervical vertebras (vertebras of the neck) and dorsal vertebras up to the frame, together with its sacral vertebras.
